This thread is brilliant.
Last year when GPT-4 was released, I spent some time trying to figure out how to prompt the model to create ASCII art. I eventually realized that what @shinboson describes as "seeing in ~0-1 dimensions" was the issue. But I didn't make the next leap of trying to figure out a 1D-centric prompt/algorithm for ASCII art generation.
