This is true, of course. But it's also true that these new AI models are very, very different from the components we've been building software with for the last 50 years. The best phrase that captures this is @emollick's "jagged frontier."

If you're shipping software today using foundation models you are, let's just say, struggling with this. It's exciting. There's enormous potential. But there are a *lot* of problems to solve.

And most people — even in tech — haven't started to use generative AI in their work at all, yet.

So it probably makes sense today for Microsoft to have a division dedicated solely to mapping the jagged frontier for both internal and external customers.

Isn't this redundant? It's like Microsoft announcing a new "Software Division" or "Computer Division"

When will it sink in that AI isn't one isolated thing, it's going to be part of everything?
